The Australian Nano Business Forum (ANBF) led the Delegation comprising 30 delegates representing 22 Australian organisations.  A national booth, with the iconic Kangaroo “Brand Australia” imagery, was one of the most visually appealing at the Expo.  ANBF’s activities, led by CEO Tina Rankovic and Senior Projects Officer Leanne Bolton, were strongly supported by the Australian Government: Invest Australia, Austrade and Invest Victoria.

Australian companies in the Delegation included Realtek Technologies, Advanced Nanotechnology, Cochlear, Orica, the CRC for Polymers, Merit Merrill Technology, Ansell, Tolhurst Noall, The Small Technologies Cluster and Nanotechnology Victoria.  Research institutions included The Australian Institute of Bioengineering & Nanotechnology (University of Queensland), Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Melbourne University), Monash Institute for Nanosciences, Centre for Material and Fibre Innovation (Deakin University), La Trobe University and CSIRO.  View Australian Delegate Listing

Australian Government support was critical to the success of the Australian Delegation.  Invest Australia provided significant funding and marketing support toward all the Delegation’s activities and presence at the Expo.  Austrade provided detailed briefing and industry guidance as well as facilitating the Delegation’s involvement in the JETRO/NBCI/AIST Industry Reception on Thursday, 22 February held at Tokyo Big Sight and attended by over 500 Nano Tech international delegates, business leaders and government officials.

The Tokyo based Invest Victoria Business Office provided excellent translation services and support throughout the Expo, coordinating the high-level Australian Delegation Networking Reception at the historic Imperial Hotel on Wednesday 21 February.  The Reception was attended by approximately 80 leading Japanese business people and international Nano Tech 2007 delegates and was recognized by the visit of the Australian Ambassador, Mr Murray McLean OAM.  The Australian Ambassador later visited the exhibition and spent time at the Australian Pavilion.

The CEO of the ANBF, Ms Tina Rankovic, commented “The Australian visit to Nano Tech 2007 in Japan was successful both in gaining insights to aspects of the international nanotechnology business, and in promoting the capabilities and activities of the Australian nanotechnology industry.  We demonstrated that Australia is rapidly becoming an important player in industrial nanotechnology, and developed some important relationships”.  Ms Rankovic also took the opportunity to extend the ANBF’s thanks to Invest Australia, Austrade, Invest Victoria and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources noting that “Without the contributions of these organizations, the Australian delegation could not have been as successful.  We intend to build on this success in 2008”.
