Tasmanian Electronic Commerce Centre (TECC)
The TECC Pty Ltd was the first project nationally of the Networking the Nation Fund established in 1997. Since then it has been supported by two further rounds of funding from the Australian Government Department of Communications Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA), and is currently funded by its two shareholders the Tasmanian State Government, and the University of Tasmania.
TECC has performed a range of activities during its nine years of operation from awareness raising and project support for the uptake of Electronic Commerce and advanced ICT practices amongst traditional business through to working with some of the nations most innovative software and content developers in the role as managers of the Business Development Fund (BDF) ($4.7M) of the Launceston Broadband Project.
TECC has developed material and programmes and delivered them nationally under the Australian Electronic Commerce Centre (AECC) brand most recently being the Demand Aggregation Manual and Regional Broadband forums funded by DCITA under the National Broadband Strategy.
Currently TECC is a key architect and manager of the nations most advanced FTTH/TP trial, the TasCOLT project with partners CEOS, HITACHI, Intel, Aurora and the Tasmanian Government. The project will deliver ultra fast broadband infrastructure, applications and services to up to 1000 users across three regions in Tasmania.
Since its establishment TECC has overseen the distribution of funding support and programme delivery in excess of $20M worth of Federal, State and private sector investment across the range of its activities.
