CALL FOR STRATEGY SUBMISSIONS

The National Nanotechnology Taskforce is calling for submissions on the development of a coordinated national nanotechnology strategy.

The National Nanotechnology Strategy Taskforce was established in the Federal Department for Industry, Tourism and Resources on 1 July 2005.  The objective of this taskforce is to examine options for a coordinated national nanotechnology strategy across the Federal and State Governments by 30 June 2006.

The taskforce is basing its work on the recommendations and findings of the Prime Minister's Science, Engineering and Innovation Council (PMSEIC) Working Group report presented to PMSEIC in March 2005.  These recommendations were that the Australian government:

Dr Peter Binks, CEO of Nanotechnology Victoria, welcomed the call for submissions and encouraged all interested parties to contribute their views: “It is critical that the Minister for Industry and his Department play a leadership role in positioning nanotechnology as a priority and area of opportunity for Australia.  We are all hoping for expression of this commitment as an outcome of the PMSEIC and Taskforce process in July.  The Taskforce has provided an opportunity for those in industry and science to offer their views, and we should take up this opportunity”.
